Asus ZenPad 10 update rolling out with new features and security patch

Asus is rolling out a new firmware update to its ZenPad 10 device. The update installs Google security patch and brings many new features to the ZenPad 10.

Arriving as software version V5.3.6, the update removes a number of apps shortcut which had become redundant such as ‘Audio Wizard’, ‘Splendid’, ‘System update’ and ‘Flashlight’. In addition to this, the option ‘Tap and hold to show menu’ has been removed from Touch Key settings and instead a new option has been included in Touch Key Setting which is ‘Tap and hold to activate Multi-window’.

The update also brings support for multiple pages in Quick Settings and adds “Game Genie” which is ZenFone’s gaming ally. The lock screen wallpaper slideshow as well as bundled notifications switch are also added by the new update. The latter works by bundling together all multiple notifications for a single app into a one group. This group then can be expanded to see the individual messages.

Other than the above cool features, the update also brings updated emojis (Unicode 9.0) and skin tone selection feature to ZEN UI Keyboard. All in all, the host of new features brought by the new update should enhance the UX of Asus ZenPad 10 users.

  1. As far as I’ve noticed the touch and hold for multi-window wasn’t that good ,coming from pure android I’ve accidentally triggered it one too many times and the game genie feature seems nice and its also is good to see how Asus did kind of an overhaul and brought in better functions :D.Not a huge fan of the ZenUI though 😐

  2. Asus have actually undone more of their redundant shortcuts and features cluttering the phone. That’s good. And more of the new features like the bundled notifications and multi window are android Nougat adaptions. That is also a step in the positive direction.
Like rishab has said below, ZenUI has a long way to go before becoming fan favorites. They lack the finishing and execution a good skin should have. Asus started making phones more recently than most and they surely have improved since the first zenfone. I am sure they will learn and continue to improve polishing up their skin and one day not far away, it will be a personal preference for many.
