Asus entered India’s budget smartphone market earlier this year with a remarkable phone in Zenfone Max Pro M1. The phone was very well received by price-sensitive customers, both in India and abroad. Now, it seems like Asus is eager to launch the successor to the phone and has fixated the date of December 11 to unveil the Zenfone Max Pro M2.

In a tweet a few days ago, Asus Indonesia, Asus’ official twitter handle in the country, announced that they’re launching a new phone on December 11 while at the same time taking a dig at its biggest competitor in this price segment, Xiaomi. A low-resolution image render on XDA with the name Zenfone Max Pro M2 gives us some hints about the upcoming phone.

Since the phone is being advertised as a gaming phone, it may see some significant hardware upgrades compared with its predecessor. We expect the phone to sport a 6-inch notched display powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC. The phone may also come with triple rear cameras and 6GB RAM, although a 4GB RAM variant may also hit the streets.

The info submitted by Asus to Google also indicates that the device may run on Android Oreo out-of-the-box, which is a bummer, to say the least. However, the fine print also reads that the specs mentioned aren’t final and that they may change at the discretion of the manufacturer. So, we can only hope that the rumors we’ve heard about the triple camera setup and a stronger processor are true. Anyway, we’ll know it all on December 11.

The device is unlikely to launch in India on December 11 and whether the device will at all be made available in India is unclear, since we’ve not received an official statement from the Taiwanese manufacturer. However, the success of Zenfone Max Pro M1 signals the device may come to the Indian shores sooner rather than later.
