May 21, 2019: Asus is finally rolling out Android 9 Pie update to the ZenFone Max M2 model ZB633KL. The update is arriving as version 16.2018.1905.42 and further installs May 2019 security patch and an upgrade to Google Mobile Services (GMS) to version 9.0_201903.

April 15, 2019: Asus is rolling out the stable Pie update to the ZenFone Max M2 in India. The update, which also updates Google Mobile Services, started rolling out last week and has now reached most, if not all units sold in the country.

The update is arriving as version 16.2018.1903.37 and weighs about 1.5GB, so be sure to get a stable Wi-Fi connection to download the software. If the OTA has yet to arrive, we have the download file for manual installation in the table below. The file is specific to model ZB632KL (India), but we expect models ZB630KL, ZB631KL, and ZB633KL to join the party soon.

March 16, 2019: Unlike the Pro variant, Asus hasn’t given ZenFone Max M2 users the opportunity to try Android Pie ahead of release. However, the company has promised that the device will be updated to Pie within the next month, a period ending April 15th.

As you wait, Asus is also rolling out an update to version 15.2016.1902.159, which installs February 2019 security patches and upgrades Google Mobile Services (GMS) to version 8.1_201810.

February 13, 2019: Asus has a new update for the ZenFone Max M2 with model number ZB633KL that installs the latest Android security patch for January 2019. The same update, which comes with software version 15.2016.1901.156, also adds AI scene detection to the camera app and general system optimizations.

Asus released the stable version of Android 9 Pie on April 10th. The ZenFone Max M2 is expected to be updated to Android Q too, but this will probably have to wait until 2020.
