Last week, ASUS started rolling out an update to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean for the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700, bringing the tablet’s software up-to-date with the latest version of Android. Now, the Taiwanese manufacturer has made the full Android 4.2 ROM available for the device, so people can manually update instead of waiting for it to arrive over-the-air.

Android 4.2 brings quite a few new features and improvements – multi-user support for up to 4-user accounts, DayDream screen saver mode for when the device is docked or on charging, parental lock support, new camera interface, lockscreen wallpaper and widgets support, Miracast wireless display connectivity, and general performance improvements (especially when switching between apps.)

So, ready to update to Android 4.2 on your Transformer Pad Infinity? The guide below has step-by-step instructions to help you manually install the update – just follow them to the letter and your tablet will be running Android 4.2 in no time. For seasoned users just looking for the download links, head to step 2 directly.

Let’s begin.

Requirements

  1. Make sure your tablet is running a completely unmodified stock Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM, version 10.4.4.25, which can be confirmed from the Settings » About tablet menu. If your tablet is rooted, that’s fine, but otherwise there should be no changes made to system files, or the update might fail to install.
  2. You’ll need a microSD card to install the update. The internal storage cannot be used.
  3. Make sure your tablet is adequately charged – a minimum of 50% is recommended.

How to Update Transformer Pad Infinity to Android 4.2.1

  1. Check your device’s SKU through the following procedure.
    1. On the tablet, go into Settings » About tablet. Then, check the Build number.
    2. If the build number starts with “HK”, your SKU is HK. Similarly, if your build number starts with “WW”, you must download the firmware for the WW SKU. Likewise for the US SKU.
  2. Now that you have checked the SKU version of your tablet, download the corresponding update file from the links below. The update is currently available for the WW, TW, and US SKU.
  3. Extract the downloaded update file once to obtain another .zip file. Copy this newly obtained .zip file (don’t extract it) to the root folder of your microSD card (root folder means the outermost part of the microSD card, don’t put it inside any folder.)
  4. Turn off the tablet. Then, power it on while holding down both the Volume Down + Power buttons. When you see white lines of text in the upper left corner of the screen, let go of the buttons, then press the Volume Up button.
  5. After a few seconds, you’ll see an Android logo and a progress bar. The update process has automatically started, and once the update is installed, the tablet will reboot automatically. That’s it.

Your ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity should now be running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, and you can confirm the update has fully completed by checking the software version in the Settings » About tablet menu. Do let us know if you run into any issues while performing the update.
