Asus wowed the masses with the stock Android-based ZenFone Max Pro M1 that also boasted one of the best value for money offers in the budget segment. This, obviously, set up an interesting stage for the launch of the ZenFone Max Pro M2, with many expecting the device to come preinstalled with Android 9 Pie now that its predecessor had Oreo out of the box.
While Asus has truly delivered another magnificent handset when it comes to price versus specs combination, there are still a couple or so disappointments. One of them, the lack of a future-proof USB-C port, cannot be wished away, but the other, Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed, can easily be handled.

In fact, Asus says the update to Android 9 Pie will be ready in January 2019 not only for the ZenFone Max Pro M2 but also for the standard ZenFone Max M2, which also has pure Android Oreo out of the box.
Asus also notes that both devices get an extra 100GB of free Google Drive storage, which is a pretty cool addition despite the duo coming with 32/64GB storage options that can be expanded via a microSD card of up to 2TB.
The ZenFone Max M2 and Max Pro M2 have been launched in India and begin selling on December 20 and December 18, respectively.
