Last month, Asus revealed that an update to Android 9 Pie will start rolling out to the ZenFone 5Z towards the end of January 2019, but there was no mention of the standard ZenFone 5.

However, reports coming in from Brazil claim that Asus is already getting ready to update the ZenFone 5 to Android 9 Pie. A firmware of the device carrying Android Pie is available for some users in the football-crazy country, suggesting that tests are already underway as the company aims to keep its promise.

The new update includes a revamped ZenUI and it’s likely that only a select user group has access to the OS as the company looks to iron out any bugs and errors ahead of official release. It is also likely that even if the official rollout commences this coming month, it will still be staged.

Some of the changes that Pie brings to the ZenFone 5 include dark theme, improved navigation with more responsive animations, and Google Pixel-like volume menu on the display screen, among others.

The update comes with software version 16.0610.1812.52 and also includes the latest Android security patch for December 2018.
