Lately, Samsung has been quite busy with rolling out major OS upgrades to various devices such as the Galaxy S8, Note 8, Galaxy A 2017 series and recently, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. However, Android OS upgrades are not the only software updates to look forward to, especially for those using older devices that are not eligible for the OS.
The company is also showing some love to those who won’t be receiving Android Oreo, among them the Galaxy J7 2015, Galaxy J7 Prime, and Galaxy Tab S2. These three are currently receiving the latest Android security patches for the month of April 2018.
The update rolling out to the Galaxy J7 2015 carries software version J700MUBU2BRD1 while the J7 Prime is receiving software version G610FDDU1BRD1. If you are using the Galaxy Tab S2, the update coming your way has software version T819YDXU2BRC2 and for those on the Galaxy Tab S3, the update has software version T825JXU1ARC1.

Although the currently rolling-out Android Oreo update for Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge brings April 2018 security patches to the pair, the update has only been confirmed for the European market with model numbers SM-G930F and SM-G935F. It may take a week or two before the OS starts showing up in the U.S. and until then, Samsung has new updates for the unlocked variants of the pair sold in this market.
Where the Galaxy S7 is getting a software update with version G930UUEU4BRD1, the Galaxy S7 Edge is on software version G935UUEU4BRD1. The 2016 pair is also joined by last year’s Galaxy Note 8, which is getting software version N950WVLU4CRD5, but this update is for the Canadian market.
Having already received two major OS upgrades, we didn’t expect the Galaxy S6 to receive Android Oreo. But according to American carrier T-Mobile, Galaxy S6 Oreo update is in the manufacturer development stage. When exactly this will be rolled out is unknown, but as you wait for Oreo, you can still grab the latest April 2018 security patch and keep your device fresh.

The latest Galaxy S6 update has software version G920FXXU6ERD1 and like the rest, it’s rolling out over the air. Of course, OTA updates take time before all units get them, so you may have to wait for a few days before you can download the new April 2018b security patch on your device.
