Update [September 03, 2018]: The Android 9 update is now indeed available for the OnePlus 6 handsets around the world. OnePlus started rolling out Pie update for its OP6 sets as a beta, suitably dubbed as Open Beta 1.
Check out our OnePlus 6 update page for downloads and installation guide regarding Android 9 update. In case you ever downgrade back to Android Oreo, OnePlus has provided rollback package too.
OnePlus 6 went on sale across the globe in May and on the very day, the device’s Android Pie developer preview program commenced. Three months later and the company has reportedly started rolling out the first open beta version of the OS to the device.
According to XDA Developers, OnePlus 6 is receiving an update that installs the first open beta of the new Android Pie update, but this has only been reported in China, where HydrogenOS is popular. Although nothing official has been put forward, history tells us that it shouldn’t be long before a similar update arrives on the global OxygenOS variant.

And indeed thanks to a post made in the official OnePlus forums, it’s likely that the first Android Pie open beta for OnePlus 6 with OxygenOS on top should arrive this week. Like those in China, users of the global variant have also been enjoying the developer preview of Pie, but this may be about to end.
With this move, it should take several weeks before the stable version arrives on OnePlus 6, meaning we could be looking at a Q4 2018 release date. It’s thought that OnePlus has plans to work with T-Mobile in bringing the OnePlus 6T to the U.S. this October and while we still don’t know much about the device’s specs, we hope this early access to Android Pie build should translate to a 6T device that runs Pie out of the box.
