Google has just turned their back to the developers by completely isolating bootloader unlocked devices from SafetyNet checks. Meaning you’ll no longer be able to use Android Pay if you’ve an unlocked bootloader on your device, let alone root access.
As of now, only Android Pay seems to be making use of the new SafetyNet check but we wouldn’t be surprised if Pokemon Go folks also follow what Google has done with Android Pay and completely block all Android devices that with unlocked bootloader.
If your device has unlocked bootloader, you won’t be able to make payments with Android Pay anymore. You’ll get the following error “We could not verify your software”. The SafetyNet Helper app also reports “CTS profile match: false” now.
It’s a sad day for developers and users alike who prefer to have an unlocked bootloader on their devices for TWRP, Root, Factory images and what not. Unlocking the bootloader is one of the most exciting features of Android.
