Few days back when the Google app was updated to version 7.17, it also gave us our first dig at ‘Android P’ as the app was now targeting the P (even though the platform build version code remained unchanged at 27, which is for 8.1.0 (code 26 is for 8.0.0, BTW).
Now, we’re also seeing Google Translate target the Android P platform too already, as we found in the code of its latest update, v5.15, that was released earlier today. But that’s all about the v5.15 of the Translate app — as neither in the APK Teardown, nor within the app itself, did we spot any new changes over v5.14 (yeah, small change, shouldn’t have hopes).
Here’s the code from Translate app that is the base of this article.
<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″ standalone=”no”?><manifest xmlns:android=”http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android” android:installLocation=”auto” package=”com.google.android.apps.translate” platformBuildVersionCode=”27″ platformBuildVersionName=”P“>
So, what gives? Not much, really.
But it just feels like Google is preparing well for the Android P, which is expected to arrive as beta within Late Q1 2018. We could see Google release Android P beta by mid-March, going by previous release of Android OS beta updates. We can’t speculate on Android P features just yet, but our hunch is that we would get more of P stuff thrown over way in the next 2-3 months for sure.
‘Android Oreo release for your Android device‘
Meanwhile, Google also updated its Photos app yesterday, and its teardown gave us hint about some new features like Suggested Actions, and a new Promo Banner in the making to highlight Backup features of the app well.
