The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus was launched in September of 2016 with Android Marshmallow out of the box. Since then, the phone got upgraded to Android Nougat but the deserved Android Oreo update remained elusive. Not anymore though, as the Android 8.1 update is now available for the Mi 5s Plus as version 8.9.20 under the beta program, and yes, it’s topped up with the MIUI 10.
A few Xiaomi devices — Mi 8 and Mi Mix 2S — have already been updated to Android Pie beta now, which is why it feels a bit terrible to know that the Mi 5S Plus users were still making do with Nougat update.
This summer, Xiaomi released a statement in which it explained that it’s still working on the Android 8.0 update, but it has encountered some technical issues along the way. The company mentioned, for example, a problem with the ultra-fingerprint scanner on the phone.

Well, it seems that these issues are at least partly in the past, as the Android Oreo update for the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus is now available as part of the closed beta. We expect the company to start rolling out the stable Android Oreo update for the device sometime in October.
