Samsung has rolled out Android 8.0 Oreo updates to all eligible flagship devices, including the 2016 pair of Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. Furthermore, those using the midrange family of Galaxy A3 2017, Galaxy A5 2017 and Galaxy A7 2017 have also received the Oreo update and right next on the list is the Galaxy J series, whose update details we have thanks to Samsung Turkey.
According to Samsung Turkey’s software update page, more Samsung phones will be joining the Oreo bandwagon in the next few weeks. Even though the A 2017 series has already been updated to Oreo in most parts, it is only from July 6 2018 that those in Turkey will begin receiving the update. If you own a Galaxy J3 2017, Galaxy J5 Pro or Galaxy J7 Pro, your update to Android Oreo will arrive on July 13.
It’s worth noting that this information is specific to the Turkish market, but it does give us a hint of when to expect the Oreo update for the Galaxy J 2017 family. Also worthy of a mention is the fact that in other markets, the said Galaxy J5 Pro and Galaxy J7 Pro are actually sold as Samsung Galaxy J5 2017 and Galaxy J7 2017.
So, if you believe your device is known as Galaxy J5 2017 or J7 2017, your update to Android Oreo isn’t too far away. As is, the OS is being tested on the devices and given the uncertainties that can at times surround software update release dates, we can only hope that the scheduled release will go through as planned.
