Android Oreo’s first anniversary is approaching fast and many OEMs and carriers are doing all they can to update eligible devices to the latest stable OS. Among such OEMs are Motorola and Huawei, two companies that are worlds apart in terms of smartphone revenues.
The OG Moto Z family started receiving Android Oreo about a month ago, but this was only reported in Brazil. Earlier this week, the update was spotted in Europe and a few days later, Oreo started rolling out to the Moto Z Play in India.
Now, reports coming from Canada suggest that the Moto Z Play will receive Android Oreo beginning May 1, 2018. This is only a week away from now, which makes it very soon. While it is easy to give a specific release date for a software update, it’s completely another thing to live up to this promise. Whether Canadians will indeed get Oreo on the Moto Z Play as stated remains to be seen, but we hope it’s the case.
The story is even better for those using Huawei P10 and P10 Plus. Whereas the former has been promised a “Coming soon” release for Android Oreo, the latter is, in fact, already receiving the update right now. Apparently, the OS rollout is staged and the first phase is ongoing, with the full release expected on April 30.
It’s been months since the first instances of Android Oreo were reported on Huawei P10 and P10 Plus. However, Canada and North America, in particular, has never been one to lead when it comes to receiving Android OS software updates unless we are talking about Google and the Pixels.
Huawei is also expected to commence Oreo rollout for the Mate 10 Lite (known as Honor 9i in India) users beginning April 30th and while this has been confirmed for the Pakistani market, we expect other regions to get the update at about the same time, too. Those using Huawei P9 Lite 2017, otherwise known as Honor 8 Lite, can also expect to get Oreo in Q3 2018.
