Android N is for Nougat!

This photo provided by Google shows the Android Nougat statue, officially unveiled Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Google campus in Mountain View, Calif. The next version of Android software dubbed "Nougat" is scheduled to be released in new smartphones in the fall of 2016 when the makers of existing Android devices will also be able to enable updates to the new software. Nougat's new features will include the ability to run apps without actually installing them on a device. (Google via AP)

Android N is for Nougat. On 31st of June 2016, Google finally decided on the name for the latest and greatest Android update — Android Nougat.

You might wonder how you should be pronouncing it. Like many words, Nougat is pronounced differently in each accent. Watch this quick video to see how to pronounce Nougat.

Android Nougat 7.0 release date has been scheduled for this fall. Also, knowing that 4 developer previews have already been released for Android Nougat, we guess the final preview of Nougat will arrive shortly for all, and after that the public release will happen.

The Android 7.0 Nougat update will be first coming to Nexus devices via OTA or fastboot flashable factory images. While OTA is a safer choice to install Android updates, but it usually takes upto a week for major Android updates to reach to users after public release.

If you’re someone who wouldn’t like to wait a second once Android Nougat is available for everyone. Then we suggest you to go by the means of a factory images only (once available).

For anyone eager to download/install Android Nougat right now, don’t forget that the Android N developer preview 4 is already out and is supported by several Nexus devices, Pixel C, General Mobile 4G (Android One) and Xperia Z3.

Android Nougat update for devices other than supported Nexuses will be arriving after a few months of the public release. That’s because Android manufacturers aren’t really quick at releasing major Android updates. And if your device is carrier locked, it might even take 5-6 months for the update to arrive for your device.
