Samsung is rolling out a new update that installs Android 8.1 Oreo to the Galaxy J7 Pro in Asia. This is a variant of the J7 2017 that ships with model number SM-J730G and it joins model SM-J730FM as the first recipients of the new OS in the family of ‘SM-J730’ variants.

The update being rolled out has software version J730GDXU5BRI3 and is rolling out over the air, meaning it will take several days before all Galaxy J7 Pro handsets get the download notification. Speaking of which, the other variant of the J7 Pro has model number SM-J730GM and although not part of this current rollout, it should also begin receiving Oreo very soon.

It’s a little strange that Samsung is rolling out Android 8.1 Oreo to some variants of the ‘SM-J730’ family while others will be receiving Oreo 8.0. Nonetheless, the difference between these two Oreo versions is negligible, so it shouldn’t be a major concern.
