It’s only a few days ago that Motorola’s Moto G5 Plus started seeing the update to Android 8.1 Oreo and apparently, the same story is now true for those on the smaller Moto G5.
It’s not strange that the pair is getting the update to Android 8.1 Oreo at about the same time; after all, they were also launched together. However, do note that like its counterpart, the Moto G5 Oreo update is a soak test, meaning only a few users will be getting it first and after using it for a while and that Motorola is satisfied with the results, a wider rollout will commence.

How long the soak test lasts cannot be determined, but if things go according to plan, the wider release should happen later this month. Also, the soak test is only rolling out in Brazil, but since India’s Moto G5 Plus also joined the party, it’s likely the same will be true for the standard model.
The update has software version OPP28.85-3, but to get it, you need to be enrolled in Motorola Feedback Network.
