The Samsung Galaxy J3 2017 and Galaxy J7 2017 – the unlocked versions – are getting updated to Android 8.1 Oreo in the US.
The new build will update the software on each model to version J327UUEU3BRJ1 and J727UUEU3BRJ2 respectively.
Like their name indicates, Samsung introduced the two smartphones in 2017 and they both shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The two models were upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo not so long ago, and now Samsung is pushing Android 8.1 Oreo to the unlocked versions.
Android 8.1 Oreo brings a bunch of improvements and fixes to the table including better screen management, alerts for battery consumption, emoji updates and more.
With the Android 8.1 Oreo update currently going on, you’re probably wondering if your phone will get the bump to Android 9 Pie?

It’s not likely. The J3 is clearly not eligible to get the latest version of Android, and it appears the J7 will not get it either.
So far, it seems that from all its Galaxy J7 phones, Samsung plans to update only the Galaxy J7 2018 to Pie. But this is just speculation at this point, as the company hasn’t disclosed its exact plans.
