We recently got confirmation that the Moto Z Play will start receiving Android Oreo in Canada on May 1, 2018. This is only a week away from now, but it appears those using the high-end Moto Z are already getting the OS ahead of their counterparts.
Android Oreo started rolling out to the Moto Z in Brazil a month ago. A few days ago, the same OS was spotted in Europe, where it also came along with March 2018 security patches, just like the Brazilian model.
Although it has taken quite a long wait, especially considering that there was no flagship 2nd-generation Moto Z handset officially sold in Canada, the Moto Z Oreo update is finally here. In fact, those on TELUS started receiving the OS on April 18, 2018, at least according to the carrier’s software support page.
The update installs software version OPL27.76-51 and like the rest of the Moto Z Oreo updates, you get the OG version 8.0 alongside March 2018 security patches. It’s unlikely that Motorola will update the device to the newer 8.1. And no, don’t even think about Android P.
Like any other software update, this one is available over the air, so it may take a few days before every Canadian using the Moto Z gets the OTA notification. Better still, you can also try to force the update via the Settings menu.
