In June, Lenovo owned Motorola surprised the users of Moto X Play by sending them Nougat 7.1.1 update directly over Marshmallow 6.0.1. In case you are still confused, Motorola skipped the Nougat 7.0 update for Moto X Play and handed them Nougat 7.1.1 update.
Now, looks like Moto X Play users would soon enjoy Android 7.1.2 on their devices. Wondering who told us that? Well, Moto X Play has been spotted on GFXBench running Android 7.1.2. This means Moto X Play could get Android 7.1.2 soon.

However, take this news with a pinch of salt. Because, last time too, Moto X Play was spotted with Android 7.0 and that update never arrived.
Also, if Nougat 7.1.2 does arrive for Moto X Play, it would be the last operating system update for Moto X Play as Motorola has already revealed the devices that will get Android Oreo update and Moto X Play doesn’t find its place there. The devices that will receive Android Oreo update are Moto Z, Moto Z Play, Moto X4, Moto G5/Plus, Moto G5s/Plus among others. Sadly, low-budget Moto E and Moto C series won’t receive Android Oreo update too. But, if you want to try Oreo update on your Moto X Play, you can install it using LineageOS 15.
Meanwhile, Motorola recently announced its first Android One device in the US. It is not any low budget phone but a phone from the Moto X series itself. We are talking about Moto X4. Moto X4 runs on Android One and is the first non-Pixel device to feature Google Fi service. If you want to buy Moto X4 with Android One but without Google Fi service, check this post for more details.
