Samsung today announced what we already knew, and have seen live, that Android Nougat update for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge is rolling out. You can even download the Nougat firmware for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, while the update has already been out now for 2 days.
But what’s interesting to note in the announcement comes as part of the explanation on asterisk, in footnotes. Samsung has revealed that they plan to expand release of their Nougat update for variety of devices within first-half of the year, and that includes even the Galaxy S6 and Note 5, among many other devices. Let’s have a detailed look.
Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus
Samsung says users of the these devices can expect the Android 7.0 update within first half of 2017, but because they didn’t specifically put Q1 2017 tag on S6 sets, it raises some doubts. Our take is that Samsung couldn’t provide an elaborate release details in footnotes, so they kept it pretty short, as we expect the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge to have their own Nougat update by February end.

Galaxy Note 5
Android 7.0 Nougat update is announced for first-half 2017, and it looks like it will be hitting you some time in April.
Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A8
Well, what’s more surprising here is exclusion of Galaxy A5, A7 and A9, and no mention of which year’s edition it is. We take that we would be seeing 2016 editions of Galaxy A3 and A8 receive Nougat update before end of first-half of 2017, while Galaxy A5 and A7 would see it Q3.
Galaxy A3, A5, A7, C5 Pro, C7 Pro and C9 Pro [Recent releases]
About 2017 edition of Galaxy A3, A5 and A7, we hope Samsung is able to release the Nougat update within first-half. As these sets haven’t been released globally yet, Samsung might have thought it’s best to now mention them in today’s statement.
Same goes for the Samsung’s C-series, that consists of Galaxy C9 Pro and C7 Pro right now, while would soon have C5 Pro lined up.
Galaxy Tab A and Tab S2
Samsung reveals that the S-Pen edition of Tab A would receive the Android Nougat within 2017’s first-half, which means other edition would have to wait until Q3 of 2017. Then, you have Galaxy Tab S2 up for Nougat upgrade before June 2017 ends.
