Android 5.1.1 update for Verizon Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 rolling out!

This is big day for Verizon Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge users as the carrier has finally started roll out of the much awaited Android 5.1.1 update. And since the build no. is OG5, we believe this also fixes the Stagefright security bug in Android OS. Btw, there is another Samsung device getting 5.1.1 update at Verizon, and that is Galaxy Tab 4 10.1-inch.

The build no. of the update is G920VVRU3BOG5 (Galaxy S6), G925VVRU3BOG5 (Galaxy S6 Edge) and T537VVRU3BOG1 (Galaxy Tab 4 10.1″). The update also brings a new feature called “Caller Name ID” while the usual bunch of 5.1.1 features remain a given. There are some bug fixes too included in the update.

If you haven’t received the update on your Verizon Galaxy S6, S6 Edge or Tab 4, then try to force the OTA update on your device. For this, open Settings > About device > Software update and then tap on ‘check for update’ button.

In case you have rooted your device, note that installing the 5.1.1 update would unroot it, and a root solution is not available for now. In future, root solution may be available as it is on T-Mobile and Sprint S6 sets, but this isn’t KNOX free, meaning these new root solutions void your S6’s warranty and disable Samsung Pay too.

  • Caller Name ID now works if you have Advanced Calling enabled on your device. With Caller Name ID, you can:
    • Identify unknown callers so you can easily screen calls
    • See identified caller names in your call log
    • Easily add new callers to contacts
    • Choose what people see when you call them with Picture ME
  • Other Enhancements:
    • Upgrade to Android OS 5.1.1
    • Fixed an issue where sometimes ‘Contacts has stopped’ would pop up
    • Fixed a no service condition when traveling to Puerto Rico
    • Fixed an issue where sometimes the Mobile Data icon would disappear from the Quick Panel
    • Made improvements to auto-correction and predictive text in native keypad

→ That’s it. Let us know what visual changes and other improvements do you notice on your Verizon S6 and S6 Edge after the update.
