Google announced the Android 5.0 Lollipop a couple of days back and we’re already hearing news from various Android manufacturer partners for their Android 5.0 Lollipop update schedule. Major companies like HTC and Motorola announced their update plans right after a few hours of Google’s announcement, while Sony took a day to announce its update plans.
However, Samsung hasn’t said a single word yet on their Android 5.0 update schedule. Usually, Samsung updates its flagship devices to newer Android version between 90-120 days but we’re yet hear Samsung’s plan for the Lollipop update.
It generally takes 60-90 days for manufacturers to push update for the latest Android version after Google announces it. But that’s only the case for flagship devices, for non-flagship ones, companies take well over 90 days and sometimes don’t even update the other devices.
However, according to Google Android 5.0 update can run well on devices with 1GB RAM and dual-core or a quad-core processor. And almost all mid-end to high-end devices sold in 2013 and 2014 have this configuration so unless your manufacturer sucks, you can expect the Lollipop update for your Android devices released in 2013 or 2014.
If you’ve a Android device released before 2013, then even after being compatible (hardware-wise), your device may not get the Android 5.0 update officially. Because generally devices are only enrolled for Android updates for upto 18 months since release. But thanks to the massive community of independent developers on Android, you’ll most probably get the Android 5.0 update for your old Android device by the means custom ROMs based on AOSP. Popular examples of such custom ROMs are CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, OmniROM, etc.
For Nexus devices, Google has promised Android 5.0 update as early as Nov. 2014 when the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 starts shipping. And for Android One, no official statement has been made yet, but we guess that’ll be soon too given the stock experience of Android One devices and Google’s 2 years guaranteed updates policy.
Have a look at the table below for list of devices that’ll be getting the Android 5.0 update. As of now, we’re including devices only from the major Android device manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony and LG.
Some manufacturers have given initial statements that they will provide the Android 5.0 update as soon as they can, but no actual update date or other details have been shared though. So we’ve included devices for which we expect Android 5.0 update to arrive, even if official statements aren’t made by the respective manufacturers.

LG
LG, like its Korean rival-brother, Samsung, has chosen to stay quite on its Android 5.0 update plans. LG has a bad reputation in pushing out updates to the latest Android version so far, but we expect the manufacturer to improve its standing this year and push out Android 5.0 update as soon as they can and to as much devices as possible.
UPDATE (28/10/2014): LG just confirmed that LG G3 will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in December 2014.
UPDATE (10/11/2014): LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update already leaked. LG will be officially releasing it within next 3-4 days. Crazy!

About Android 5.0 Lollipop Update
Android 5.0 Lollipop brings a number of new features for both users and developers alike, and most importantly Google has completely redesigned the whole user interface of Android with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The latest version of Android now uses a new design language called Material design.
Material design is all about neat layouts, cool color profiles and sweet sweet animations throughout the OS. You’ll see a lot of buttery animations on the Android 5.0 update. Google even launched a dedicated site on Material design back in June with the release of Android L developer preview, you can take a look at it here.
Other than new design, Android 5.0 Lollipop update also brings various new features like Screen pinning which lets you pin a screen before you share your device with anyone else, so that the other person could only interact with that particular screen and not mess around with other stuff on your phone. Screen pinning is just one of the many new features in the Android Lollipop update, you can a look at the new changes over at the Android 5.0 Lollipop features page.
