Another set of smartphones have been launched at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, this time coming from Alcatel, which has a reputation in the lower end markets. Launching a trio of smartphones namely Alcatel A5 LED, A3 and U5, the Chinese OEM brings something different to the table, especially with the first handset.
Alcatel A5 LED, with its lit back, garners the spotlight. As the name suggests, the device has a back panel covered in colorful LED lights. The LED panel reacts to incoming notifications and lights up. It even reacts to music playing on the handset. The LED panel further can be custom programmed to display various LED patterns based on your designs and daily themes. In fact there’s a dedicated app for the entire LED set-up. Another interesting feature on the rear of A5 LED is a battery pack cover and a speaker with a kickstand cover which can take the place of a conventional rear panel.
Throwing some light on the rest of the Alcatel A5 features, it sports a 5.2-inch 720 IPS display, an octa-core Mediatek MT6753 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz. It packs in 2GB of RAM and 16GB expandable storage. For capturing a pic, an 8MP camera sits there on the rear LED panel while selfies can be clicked with a 5MP front shooter. Power comes courtesy a 2,800mAh battery and it runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Alcatel A3
The Alcatel A3, which comes in the affordable range, features a 5-inch 720p IPS display, quad-core Meidatek MT6737 chipset with 1.25GHz clock speed. The storage option includes 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM. The battery underneath is 2,460mAh with Android Marshmallow on board. On the imaging front, we have a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie shooter. Surprisingly, this ‘most affordable 5-inch HD smartphone’ even has a fingerprint sensor.
Alcatel U5
The entry-level Alcatel U5, which the Chinese manufacturer claims is ‘the most affordable 5-inch 4G smartphone’ is shipped with 5-inch display, quad-core 1.1GHz Mediatek MT6737M processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage.
The price and availability date of these smartphones has not been specified by Alcatel.
