To deny transitions in EA SPORTS UFC 6hold Right Trigger (RT) and flick the Right Stick in the exact direction your opponent is moving immediately after they start their transition animation.

Transition Denial Cheat Sheet

Aspect What You Need to Know
Core Controls Right Trigger (RT) + Right Stick (RS) in 4 directions
When to Hold RT Hold RT constantly while on the ground (gives you a head start)
When to Flick RS Flick RS only after opponent starts their transition animation (not before)
Key Benefit Denying transitions depletes opponent’s stamina significantly
Stamina Impact Lower stamina = slower opponent transitions + easier submission locks for you
Best Setting Turn on Time Dilation (slows time during transitions; default ON, OFF in multiplayer)
Grapple Meter Denying transitions moves the grapple advantage bar to your side most effectively
Reversals Perfect timing + high BJJ rating = automatic transition reversals

How to Deny Transitions in UFC 6

Step 1: Master the Core Controls

Hold Right Trigger (RT) while on the ground to enter defense mode. Then, hold the Right Stick in one of four directions (up, down, left, right) to block your opponent’s transition attempt.

You cannot hold the Right Stick in advance—you must react to their movement after they start animating.

Step 2: Watch Opponent Body Cues

Opponents give visual clues before transitioning. Look for dropping shoulders or leaning in a direction—this indicates where they’re moving. For example, in half mount, they’ll typically move left or right to pass guard (only 2 options, 50% chance).

Step 3: Play Negatively First

Start by holding RT and waiting for your opponent to move. Don’t attempt your own transitions until you’ve denied a few of theirs. This drains their stamina and makes them susceptible to your transitions later.

Step 4: Learn Position Chains

There are limited positions and transition chains. Practice in the Gym to memorize which directions work for each position:

  • Half mount → left or right only

  • After passing guard → right (side control) or left (mount)

Knowing these chains eliminates up/down options, boosting your success rate from 25% to 50%.

Step 5: Use Reversals with High BJJ Fighters

With perfect timing, you can reverse transitions instead of just denying them. This happens more easily with fighters having high BJJ ratings like Islam Makhachev, Khabib, Oliveira, Jones, Aspinall.

Critical Mistakes to Avoid

  • Holding Right Stick too early: If you hold RS before the animation starts, the opponent gets free reign to transition.

  • Spamming strikes: Body strikes drain stamina, but head strikes don’t. Don’t waste stamina—wait for transition opportunities.

  • Trying to get up immediately: Build grapple advantage first by denying transitions and chaining 2–3 of your own before getting up.

  • Evading randomly in full mount: If you dodge into a punch, you’ll get massive damage. Block with RT first, then evade with timing.

Bonus: Getting Up & Muscle Modifier Tips

To get up, press up on Right Stick (always up, never left/right/down). If the option is hidden, hold L1 + up on RS to reveal it.

Use the Muscle Modifier (hold R1 during ground moves) to muscle through transitions faster—like Derrick Lewis—but it drains more stamina, so use sparingly.

Mastering transition denial is the number one thing you need to know for UFC 6’s ground game—it makes you significantly harder to deal with and turns you into a grappling prodigy. Practice in the Gym first, since time dilation is OFF in multiplayer, then dominate your ranked fights.
