To work out in Paralives, click on the ground or gym equipment and choose an Exercise interaction like Jog here, Run here, Do push‑ups, or use machines at the gym to build the Exercise and Fitness skills.
How to work out in Paralives
Step 1: Get your Para in a good mood
Make sure your Parafolk’s basic needs (hunger, energy, hygiene, bladder, fun) are green before exercising, because negative moods slow or even block fitness and exercise skill gains. Use TV, music, snacks, or a shower first so the workout actually gives XP. Or simply get them in the workout outfits.

Step 2: Start a basic workout on the ground
Zoom near your Para and click on the ground where there’s space. Choose “Jog here” or “Run here” to begin a simple cardio workout, or open the Exercise submenu to select “Do push-ups” or “Do jumping jacks”, which cost nothing and raise the Exercise skill.

Step 3: Build a routine by running around town
Chain workouts by clicking further away and using “Jog here” or “Run here” repeatedly so your Para travels on foot instead of taking the bus.

This makes daily errands double as exercise, steadily raising Exercise and broader Fitness while you explore the open world.

Step 4: Use the town gym for stronger workouts
Open the map and head to the gym location in town if you want machines.

Once inside, click on equipment like treadmills, weight benches, or other workout machines and select the relevant exercise interaction to gain faster Exercise skill without spending Paradimes on home equipment.

Step 5: Set up a home gym in Build Mode
Open Build Mode, go to the fitness or activities category, and buy items like the Fite Muscles of Mayhem Barbell, We Go Jim bench, or other machines to place in your house. Using these regularly lets your Para work out on demand without traveling, at the cost of some initial Paradimes.
Step 6: Mix in dancing for equipment-free training
Click an open floor space at home or outdoors and choose “Dance here” to start dancing. This boosts the Dance sub-skill while feeding into the broader Fitness skill, and it works anywhere with no equipment, making it ideal early-game or in small homes.
Step 7: Study fitness to speed up future workouts
Use a computer and select options related to learning about fitness, or send your Para to the library to read fitness books. Improving the Fitness Knowledge skill increases how quickly your Exercise skill grows when working out, effectively making every future jog or gym session more efficient.
Step 8: Track fitness goals and progress
Open your Para’s goals/Storyteller panel and look for Fitness goals like Gym Newbie, which ask for targets such as reaching Exercise level 5, logging total hours of exercise, or learning fitness on a computer. Doing structured goals gives Personality XP and keeps your workouts focused.

Step 9: Use cheats only if you want to skip the grind
Press CTRL + F1 to open the cheat console, then type SETSKILLLEVEL EXERCISE X to set Exercise to a specific level or LEVELUPSKILL EXERCISE to add one level at a time. This is handy for builders or storytellers who don’t want to manually grind workouts.
Critical workout tips and mistakes to avoid
-
Keep your Para happy; training while tense, sad, or uncomfortable can drastically slow or halt skill gains, wasting time.
-
Don’t overuse the bus; walking, jogging, or running around town passively builds Exercise, so choose on-foot travel whenever you can.
-
If exercise actions are greyed out, check if the ground is blocked, your Para is too tired, or their needs are red; fix those first.
-
Start with free bodyweight moves and dancing before investing in expensive machines so you don’t cripple your early-game finances.
-
If XP gain feels slow, read or learn about fitness on a PC to raise Fitness Knowledge, then go back to physical training for better returns.
Mastering how to work out efficiently in Paralives pays off by unlocking Fitness goals, boosting your Para’s overall capabilities, and letting you roleplay athletes, trainers, or health-obsessed storylines without wasting in-game days on inefficient routines.
