What to know
-
Three distinct Improved Fins blueprint locations exist near the big alien tower
-
First two blueprints are found in an abandoned area below the surface, not on the structure itself
-
Third blueprint requires swimming past 250 meters depth northeast of the second location
-
All locations are within approximately 1,300 meters east of your life pod
Improved Fins are a crucial upgrade for underwater movement in Subnautica 2. They significantly boost your swimming speed and maneuverability, making exploration much more efficient. Finding the blueprint requires visiting specific underwater locations near the large alien tower structure in the game world.
Improved Fins blueprint locations
Location 1: First Improved Fins blueprint near the alien tower
Your first stop is approximately 1,300 meters east of your life pod, close to the big alien tower.

You will spot an abandoned area in this region, but do not go onto the structure itself.

Instead, descend slightly below the surface level of this abandoned zone. The first Improved Fins blueprint is located right there in this underwater section. Simply scan the blueprint fragment to unlock it for crafting.

Location 2: Second blueprint in the same abandoned complex
The second Improved Fins blueprint is very close to the first one. After scanning the first blueprint, move through the passage in the abandoned area and continue straight ahead.

You will find the second blueprint fragment just straight ahead in this connected section.

Scan it immediately to progress toward fully unlocking the Improved Fins blueprint, as multiple scans are typically required.

Location 3: Final blueprint northeast in deeper waters
From the second location, head northeast and keep swimming straight in that direction.

This third location requires you to go deeper than 250 meters. If you do not have a depth module for your vehicle yet, you will need to exit and swim the deeper section manually.

The final Improved Fins blueprint is attached to an alien structure in this deeper northeast region. Scan this last fragment to complete the blueprint collection.

What makes Improved Fins matter
Improved Fins represent a major quality of life upgrade for early to mid-game exploration. Faster swimming means you can cover more territory, escape dangerous creatures more easily, and complete underwater tasks efficiently. The upgrade becomes especially valuable when you start exploring deeper biomes where time management and mobility are critical for survival.

Having the Improved Fins equipped reduces fatigue during long swims and helps you reach oxygen returns more quickly when exploring complex underwater cave systems. This upgrade is one of the first mobility improvements you should prioritize after establishing basic survival needs.
