The 3rd Generation Partnership Project, which is better known by its abbreviated form 3GPP, has officially released a new logo for 5G specifications, declaring the new technology as the the next standard for wireless broadband connections.
The logo has a new wave pattern with the green of the LTE-Advanced Pro version. But on hindsight, it is a development of the existing LTE waves.
‘The idea is to keep a familiar design aspect with the use of plain black text and textured waves, but to make the logo stronger and sharper – ready for use on the new radio and next generation core specifications for 5G,’ claims 3GPP.
The company intends to use the 5G logo to help the industry to identify at which point in time 5G features will appear. This, however, will not be anytime until late 2018 when initial Phase 1 specifications by 3GPP are scheduled to begin. The 5G Phase 2 specifications are scheduled for completion in 2020.
