What you should know before we get started?

This list has been classified based on the CPUs powering each of these devices. While some chipsets might be 64bit, your manufacturer might have gone with a 32bit OS to provide better support and optimization. This is due to hardware limitations posed by existing hardware despite the introduction of 64bit architecture.

While device SOCs were able to support 64bit, other components like RAM and storage simply were unable to benefit from it which instead created a bottleneck for your CPU performance. Why my Android device is 32-bit when the chipset is 64-bit?

When the OS was making the transition to 64bit SOCs, Google made it mandatory for developers to include 64bit libraries and apps on the Play Store. While this was a much-needed push, hardware at the time, especially RAM was not really compatible with this upgrade. Most RAMs being used in smartphones at the time were underperforming units of low memory that could not take advantage of the 64bit architecture. This would result in a less stable system that would often encounter memory leaks.

Hence, manufacturers decided to go with 32bit Android despite using 64bit compatible SOCs. A good example of this would be the Moto G5 series. Although sporting an SD 430 in the basic model and SD 630 in the plus model, the G5 was inherently running a 32bit Android OS based on Lollipop out of the box instead of a 64bit one due to its RAM limitations.

How to find if your Android phone is 32-bit or 64-bit?

Well, you can use an Android app for this, too! Here’s how:

Download the AIDA64 app to discover if your Android OS is 32-bit or 64-bit on your smartphone. Once downloaded, open the app and tap ‘CPU‘.

Now, check the ‘Instruction set’ field. This will reveal whether your Android device is a 32-bit one or 64-bit.

As this is based on the version of Android and not what the chipset hardware is capable of, this is what matters for the apps and games deciding the device’s compatibility.

  1. This isn’t even right. Many of those phones have 64 bit hardware, but the OS is 32 bit. You shouldn’t post such a misleading article.

    1. For real, it says that the LG K51 have 64bit, but I have one that has 32 bit, but how are gonna know if your android phone is 64 bits even before you buy it, its not like the store employee will let you have it and go through it’s settings.

  7. I noticed one error. I would have to think there’s more like this one. Just because the arcitecture might be 64 it doewsn’t meant that’s what it’s running. ie Motorola G7 Play.
