Well everyone knows the fact that Sony Ericsson is now just ‘Sony’. And the fact is, they would solely be concentrating on smartphones in the times to come. Not that they haven’t already carved out a niche in the segment with their backing of the single-most leading OS, Android that is. 2012, therefore shall be no different and they are gearing up with certain aces up their sleeve. Until now, they sorely missed a top-end, dual-core offering and this year might see a bit of catching-up alongwith the usual perks that a Sony phone offers. So without wasting much of your time, lets look what lies ahead for us to look in the bandwagon of Sony Android Smartphones.
Sony Xperia S
The Xperia S is Sony’s flagship phone for the 2012 — the most top-end offering from the manufacturer this year. Being the first dual-core from Sony only helps its cause. A 4.3″ screen with a 720p resolution and Bravia engine, alongwith a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon dual-core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM and 32GB internal memory pit it against the top smartphones in the market for the moment. And moreover, it also has a killer 12mp camera — the first of its kind among competing Android offerings. But the fact that concerns us is that this phone might be a bit behind times in terms of the raw processor power, the OS version (comes with Gingerbread out of the box) and certain other specs. The Xperia S, and the Ion, in that matter, do have a dual core processor ticking within, but HTC already has a quad-core offering in the HTC One X with the Nvidia Tegra 3, the Samsung Galaxy S III is hotly anticipated to be packing 4 cores too, and all other competitors too, are soon going to flaunt their quad-core offerings. Also, we will have to wait and watch about how the IPS-LCD screen performs against the competitors packing S-AMOLED plus. So, the Xperia S has to survive and excel among the top phones, and, it must hold its own in things that its good at (yep, we do refer to the Camera and the industrial design here) so as to fill the glaring loopholes it has.

Sony Xperia Ion
The Xperia Ion is, basically, the bigger sibling of the Xperia S meant for the US market. The screen size has got a bump and stands at 4.55″, packing the same 720p IPS LCD as the Xperia S and almost identical specs and the same Qualcomm processor.
Sony Xperia P
This one is supposed to stand out as it is the ‘brightest’ kid on the block. Yep, WhiteMagic technology is what Sony have put in its 4″ qHD display which is destined to make its screen the brightest out there. A dual-core processor and an 8mp camera add to the spices. This phone looks similar to the Xperia S, but has a smaller screen — 4.0″, and a 1GHz dual-core CPU. The specs are not high-end and it is aimed at the mid-range only. It will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a planned update to Ice Cream Sandwich while the design elements too, are retained from the Xperia S.

Sony Xperia Sola
Mid-range is what the Xperia Sola will be aiming at. A 3.5″ display with Bravia engine, a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 5mp camera with HD recording, NFC, etc. are the usual run-of-the-mill features. There’s also Sony’s xLoud tech which enhances the audio output. But the most emphasising feature shall be the Floating touch, which allows the user to hover his finger over links just like one does with the mouse cursor and will definitely be a first-of-its-kind. But will this feature make it attractive enough against other similar offerings, more so since other competitors may see a price-drop and are already touting on Ice Cream Sandwich.
Sony Xperia U
Customization, that is what’s definitely the Xperia U’s playing-field. Spec-wise, it is quite similar to the Xperia P but appearance-wise, it has an X-factor. The bottom cap can be changed with whatever color you like and the LED lights in the transparent bar at the bottom will display matching colors, hence enhancing its chic-looks!
