You can now hear ringtones and alarms through headphones on the Galaxy S9, S8 and Note 8 running Oreo

Samsung Sound Assistant

The purpose of having headphones on a phone is to ensure you don’t disturb others with sounds coming from the device, be it notifications, ringtones or even music. However, Samsung’s top of the line handsets, the Galaxy S9, S8 and Note 8, handle this issue quite differently.

Rather than redirect all sounds to play via the headphones when plugged in, the Galaxy S9, S8 and Note 8 still play notifications and caller ringtones through the loudspeaker. If this annoys you, there’s a way to take care of it.

All you need is to update Samsung’s Sound Assistant app to the latest version 2.1.05.0, but this will only work if your device has Samsung Experience 9.0, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo.

The updated version is already available for download in the Play Store.
