The beautiful Xperia Arc just got the awesome root instructions up for itself, all thanks to one restless soul at XDA — bin4ry. So, those of you who are holding the Sony Ericsson’s flagship device in hand, and are quite addicted to root apps and other cool stuff, your WAIT is finally over. yup, it really took a bit longer than other devices — many of whi get rooted with days of release, or even before — but it’s here now, and that’s what matters.

Those who’re new to root and stuff — which I feel is the case with many SE customers (I don’t know why!) — know that rooting your Xperia Arc (or any other phone, for that matter) is risky and may brick your device apart from surely voiding the warranty. But, on the brighter and much delightful side, it will make you the superuser of your phone granting you the full access — meaning you can perform virtually every task on phone and with the help of superuser app, allow other root-hungry apps to do their job, too. The popular reasons why android phone are rooted — despite the risks involved and voiding the warranty — include, ability to take apps+data backups, flashing new custom ROMs (including CyanogenMod 7 and MIUI, if available), custom themes, firmware backups, etc. etc.

Oh, about the root instructions, it’s not available in as much details as you would wish because the developer has remained pretty scanty on the full how-to-guide. But here’s what you can do to root your Xperia Arc:

1. Unlock Bootloader.
2. Download my package:

Flash it with fastboot.
fastboot flash system system_bin4ry.img
3. Enjoy
P.s.: instructions will be improved this evening when i’m home 🙂
Thanks zdzihu for brainstorming with me 😀
Regards Bin4ry

To unlock the bootloader of your Xperia Arc, Sony Ericsson itself has provided a complete step-by-step guide, which you can find over here — follow the procedures and your bootloaders will get unlocked.

Once you’ve used a rooted phone to its full potential, it becomes hard to say NO to root on any other phone of yours, even if it’s just hours old, yep! So, we know many of you people are gonna take the risk and root your Arc for all the android openness that lies on the other side of it. You can visit and share your views on the official page here, as well as view other users views and feedback on this.

Now that the root is out, we hope ROM Manager comes supporting the Xperia Arc, or any other recovery. You’re quite looking for it, right?
