Xiaomi recently rolled out a new MIUI 10 beta update that updated the software version of the various devices in the program to 8.9.6. The Mi MIX 2S, which is also trialing MIUI 10 beta, didn’t get this version. Instead, Xiaomi rolled out a different update with version 8.9.7 and unlike previous versions, this update is based on Android 9 Pie, the latest OS in town.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S users have been able to access Android Pie for some time now, but this was only true for the developer preview version. With the update to MIUI 10 8.9.7, the Mi MIX 2S Pie testing has finally made the switch to public beta, meaning every other owner of the device can similarly make the switch to the new OS.

The update is airborne and is obviously targeting current users of MIUI beta on the device, but it’s still limited to the Chinese ROM. When exactly this update will arrive on the global ROM is still unknown, but it shouldn’t be long before we get clearer details.

As for the stable Pie update, Mi MIX 2S users may have to wait until somewhere in October 2018.
