Users of the Xiaomi Redmi S2, otherwise known as Redmi Y2 in India, have something to take home this weekend. Besides the expected MIUI 10 8.9.6 beta update, the device has also started receiving the stable version of this same skin too.

The Redmi S2 is receiving an update that installs software version MIUI 10.0.1.0.OEFMIFH and while we cannot verify this at the moment, it’s likely to include a new Android security patch for the month of August 2018.

Xiaomi hasn’t made this news official, but given that we already have the firmware file with us, it shouldn’t be long before the OTA starts rolling out. This makes the Redmi S2 the first to receive the stable MIUI 10 update on the global version. So far, we had only seen the update rolling out to the Chinese ROM, which could essentially mean the global release has just commenced.

Global MIUI 10 stable ROM for Redmi S2

Yes the Redmi S2 is eligible for Android 9 Pie update, but the latest MIUI 10 stable update is still based on Android 8.1 Oreo. Despite Project Treble, it could take months before Pie arrives on the Redmi S2, so better brace yourself for the long wait ahead.
