As expected, Xiaomi has finally launched the much anticipated Redmi Note 6 Pro in India, which follows its Thailand release back in early October. Surprisingly though, while the phone was being sold there at a price of 6900 Thai Baht which converts to approx INR 15,800, the phone has a launch price of just INR 13,999 here in India.
It is worth remembering that the predecessor to this phone, the Redmi Note 5 Pro which was launched earlier this year, was inarguably Xiaomi’s most successful device in India. People flocked weeks after weeks to buy the phone one flash sale after another, giving the phone an almost cult-like status. The new phone bears the tagline ‘Designed for India’.

It seems that superstition has gotten the better of Xiaomi as they’ve gone with the same launch price of INR 13,999 for the Redmi Note 6 Pro as they did for its predecessor. Sure, the phone only sports a couple of real upgrades like a secondary 2MP front camera with a host of AI features and a bigger display, but it was still expected to be priced a little higher.
Also worth remembering is that the price of Redmi Note 5 Pro was hiked by INR 1,000 shortly after its launch owing to what Xiaomi termed as increased operational costs. Will Xiaomi do the same this time around? If it does, it is prudent to buy the phone tomorrow, during the first sale itself, if you’re predisposed on buying it.
Or, if buying a phone right now is not urgent, you may wait for the launch of Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 in India. The phone is likely to come with a tri-cam setup at the back, house a better processor, and be priced comparatively to the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
