Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro: How to enable the 4K recording feature

It has taken the Chinese company a few years to penetrate markets outside of China, but it has somewhat been successful in the conquest. However, with the release of the budget-friendly Redmi Note 5 Pro, Xiaomi is making a bold statement that a lower price point does not mean compromising on features and hardware.

One such selling feature has been the powerful dual-camera setup, which apparently is capable of shooting quality content in 4K resolution. Since Xiaomi has locked this feature away in the system files, you’ll need to navigate and edit the files manually, which in turn requires you to root the device.

Step 1: Root the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro

Rooting your Android device may not be a simple feat, but for a cherished feature such as 4K resolution video recording, it can sure seem worth it. Moreover, we’ve created a step-by-step guide to walk through the whole process of rooting your Redmi Note 5 Pro, so go ahead and get started.

Step 2: Edit the system file

Once you have root access on your Redmi Note 5 Pro, you will be able to view and edit the system folder and the files in it. However, you will need a root-enabled file manager such as ES File Explorer to access the files needed to unlock 4K recording capability on your Redmi Note 5 Pro.

  1. Grant the file explorer root access to view and modify system files.
  2. Navigate to /system/etc/device_features/whyred.xml and select it.
  3. Locate the line that reads “support_camera_4k_quality”.
  4. Tap on it and change the value from “false” to “true” and save the file.
  5. Save and make sure you set the original permissions.
  6. Reboot your device and once the device boots up, open the Camera
  7. Open the Camera settings, scroll down to Video quality to select UHD 4K as your default recording resolution.

And that’s all there is to it! You can now enjoy capturing the sharpest content on your Redmi Note 5 Pro with the newly unlocked 4K resolution feature.
