For the past few days, there were claims that Xiaomi will be releasing the Redmi 2 smartphone in the Indian market on March 12 following the teaser that was put up by the vendor. As teased, the Redmi 2 has been officially announced for a pricing of Rs 6,999 and it carries impressive aspects.

Well, the Redmi 1S successor is bestowed with a 4.7 inch HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels that results in a pixel density of 312 pixels per inch. The screen is a laminated panel that will prevent reflections even under bright light and it is protected by Asahi Dragontrail.

Powering the Redmi 2 from within is a 64 bit 1.2 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor that is teamed up with Adreno 306 graphics unit and 1 GB of RAM. The 8 GB of Redmi 2 has been released in India and the storage capacity can be expanded further by another 32 GB using a micro SD card.

For imaging, the Xiaomi offering features an 8 MP main snapper with BSI sensor, 28 mm wide angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. This snapper can render quality low light snap to a great extent. Also, there is a 2 MP front facing selfie shooter onboard the Xiaomi phone.

The device is energized by a 2,200 mAh battery that is more capacious than the one in the Redmi 1S. It is claimed that the battery supports QuickCharge 1.0 that will charge it up 20 percent faster. The connectivity aspects onboard the Redmi 2 include dual SIM support, 4G LTE (both SIM cards), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USG OTG. The device is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat topped with MIUI 6 UI.

At a pricing of Rs 6,999, the specifications that the Xiaomi smartphone packs in are pretty decent. The device will be a stiff challenger to the other 4G capable devices in this price bracket including Lenovo A6000 and the recently launched Moto E 2015.

Talking of availability, Xiaomi has announced via a tweet that the Redmi 2 registrations for sale will start from today at 6 PM via Flipkart. Also, the device will be going on sale on March 24 from the e-commerce portal.
