The Huawei P10 is a very good competitor for the recently announced Xiaomi Mi 6. Huawei launched the P10 and P10 Plus in February this year. So, which of these smartphones is better? Well, it’s time to find out.
While the Huawei P10 is already available for purchase in several parts of the world, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is yet to go on sale. Therefore, we cannot really tell how good the Mi 6 is, but we can at least compare what’s on paper.
Both of these smartphones are flagships and come with the latest and greatest hardware. They both come with a dual-camera setup as well.
Huawei P10 vs Xiaomi Mi 6
Design
The Xiaomi Mi 6 has adapted a new design compared to its predecessor. It has rounded edges on all four sides, giving it a similar look as the Huawei Honor Magic. The phone features a mixture of metal and glass, well, mostly glass, which gives it a very premium look. The fingerprint sensor is placed under the front glass. Xiaomi also has a ceramic version of the Mi 6, which is stunning to look at.
The P10 and P10 Plus from Huawei feature an all metal unibody design, which looks a lot like the iPhone 7. It has rounded edges at the back and is quite sturdy and premium. It is also very thin. The fingerprint sensor is located at the front, and all the buttons are on the right side.
Specs
Both the Mi 6 and the P 10 feature a similar size display, with the former sporting a 5.15-inch 1080p screen, and the latter, a 5.1-inch 1080p display. The Huawei P10 Plus gets a sharper and brighter quadHD display.
Xiaomi has equipped the Mi 6 with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 6GB of RAM. Now that’s plenty of performance right there. The P10, on the other hand, features a Huawei built Kirin 960 chipset with 4GB of RAM. So yes, the Mi 6 will definitely have better performance.
The Xiaomi comes with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage options, while the Huawei P10 is also available in a 32GB configuration. The Mi 6 also features Bluetooth 5.0, whereas the P10 only has Bluetooth 4.2 LE.
A 3350 mAh battery powers the Mi 6, while the standard Huawei P10 comes with a 3200 mAh battery. Specs wise, we would have to say that the Mi 6 is better equipped.
Camera
Despite both the Mi 6 and the P10 featuring dual-camera setups, the P10 seems to come out on top. Huawei has included a 12MP primary sensor, and a 20MP depth of field lens with the LEICA branding on the P10.
The P10 Plus has an even better sensor that lets it take better low-light photos. The 8MP front camera also gets the LEICA treatment and has a lot of software enhancements to make your selfies look the best.
On the Xiaomi Mi 6, you get two 12MP units, one with a wide-angle aperture and the other a telephoto unit. We’ve seen the camera samples from the Mi 6, and judging by those, the camera can take some real good photos. The front camera is an 8MP unit that is capable of taking good selfies.
Both the smartphones feature awesome camera setups, but we would have to say the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus perform better, going by the real-world reviews.
Software
The Mi 6 and the P10, both come pre-loaded with Android Nougat. However, since the Mi 6 is newer, it comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The Mi 6 runs on EMUI 8.0, whereas the P10 has Emotion UI 5.1.
Both forked versions of Android Nougat are much better than previous iterations and include several UI changes, enhancements, and new features.
Conclusion
When you look at the pricing for the Xiaomi Mi 6 and the Huawei P10, you’re immediately bent towards the Mi 6. And we would recommend the same. The Mi 6 is better equipped, has a pretty good camera and software, and is very well priced. The P10, on the other hand, although a great device, is slightly overpriced.
