Xiaomi is one of the most underrated names in the smartphone industry. But truth be told, the OEM has some amazing pieces of hardware, especially when the value for money comes into play, and one of them is the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2.
Featuring a bezel-less 18:9 design, the Mi MIX 2 has some of the best aesthetics in the smartphone industry, leave alone the raw power it packs. However, if the Snapdragon 835 chipset, 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage it brings to the table aren’t enough to lure you to purchase the Mi MIX 2, Xiaomi has announced the Mi MIX 2S, an upgraded version of the Mi MIX 2.
Mi MIX 2S specs:
- 5.99-inch full HD+ LCD display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor
- 6/8GB RAM and 64/128/256GB storage
- Dual 12MP + 12MP dual-pixel AI back camera and 5MP front camera
- 3400mAh non-removable battery
- Android 8.0 Oreo with MIUI 9.5
- Extras: Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, Quick Charge 3.0, Qi wireless charging, AI voice assistant, etc.
On paper, the Mi MIX 2S doesn’t disappoint, but all that Xiaomi says about the phone can only be confirmed after real-world usage. According to the Chinese OEM, the Mi MIX 2S is in many ways better than Apple’s iPhone X, yet it is valued at half the price of the Apple flagship phone.
“We are comparing to iPhone X because people say it is the best phone. We just want to show we surpassed the best in many features,” claimed company co-founder Lei Jun during the launch event. At just CNY 3,299 or approximately $530, this is a bold statement to make, but on paper, the Mi MIX 2S might just live up to the hype.
Once popularly known as the Apple of China, it’s clear to see where we are headed with the Mi MIX 2S. Apple is known for its iPhone S models that usually bring minimal design tweaks with significant internal changes compared to their immediate predecessors. Well, this is what the Mi MIX 2S is compared to the six-month-old Mi MIX 2.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S price and release date
In China, the Mi MIX 2S has a price tag of CNY 3,299 or about $530. We don’t expect huge price differences when the Mi MIX 2S starts selling in other markets.
The phone has so far been confirmed for the Chinese market and while it’s expected to be sold in other Xiaomi markets as well, pricing and availability in these markets, India included, remain unknown. We’ll keep an eye on the developments and let you know when it comes to a shop near you.
