Xiaomi announced the launch of Xiaomi Mi 4i that carries the credits of being the first device to be launched outside the firm’s homeland China. Well, the interesting information is that this smartphone will be launched initially in India.
The Mi 4i was announced by the firm in the presence of Hugo Barra, the Vice President of Xiaomi. The flagship smartphone from the vendor sports a 5 inch Full HD 1080p display. The screen is a fully laminated OGS Corning Concore panel that provides the same level of protection as the Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The screen has an NTSC 95 percent color gamut and Xiaomi takes over the iPhone 6 that has only 72 percent color gamut. Also, the screen features Sunlight Display that can adjust the brightness selectively to preserve the details when viewing the display under broad daylight.
It is powered by a 64 bit octa core Snapdragon 615 SoC paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of native storage space. The Xiaomi Mi 4i boasts of a 13 MP main snapper front Sony/Samsung with f/2.0 aperture and two-tone flash. It is the same sensor that was used by the firm in the Mi Note. Up front, there is a 5 MP front facing selfie snapper with a wide angle lens. Otherwise, the Xiaomi Mi 4i is a dual SIM smartphone with a 3,120 mAh battery that can render a decent backup to it.
Software wise, the Xiaomi smartphone runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop topped with MIUI 6 custom ROM from the firm. There is an India specific feature called Visual IVR that allows users to automate the IVR prompts. The MIUI ROM has more than 100 million users across the world and it supports six Indian regional languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
Furthermore, there is a selfie timer feature in the camera and the Beauty feature that was introduced with the Mi 4 has been tweaked to use filters to enhance the photos automatically.
Xiaomi has launched the Mi 4i in five color options such as orange, white, black, blue and pink. The handset features a unibody design that is made of soft touch plastic and matte finish at its rear. The device weighs in at 130 grams and measures 7.8 mm in thickness.
The Xiaomi Mi 4i is priced at Rs 12,999 and it will be going on sale in India starting from April 30 via the firm’s exclusive online partner Flipkart. Interestingly, the firm has announced that the device will available for sale via all the retail platforms including its own Mi website in the country.
