The Chinese firm Xiaomi has been teasing to launch something different on March 24 and it was speculated to introduce the third generation Mi TV called Mi TV 3. Today, the firm has announced the launch of a miniature variant of the Mi TV 2 with a 40 inch Full HD display for a pricing that translates to approximately $320.

The Mi TV 2 is a Full HD version of the previously launched Mi TV 2 that features Sharp SDP X-GEN LED backlit panel with a contrast ratio of 5000:1. It is equipped with an MStar 6A908 SoC housing a quad core Cortex A9 processor, Mali 450 M4 graphics card and 2 GB of RAM.

The Xiaomi Mi TV 2 is bundled with 8 GB of default storage capacity and there is Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound technology as well for enhanced output. The frame measures 14.5 mm making it the thinnest one in the segment. There is H.265 10-bit hardware decoder enabling the TV to support playback of different formats such as MKV, MP4, MOV, TS, AVI and more.

The Android based Mi TV 2 is based on MIUI that is wrapped on the Android 4.4 KitKat platform. We can expect an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the future.

The previous generation model, Mi TV 2 comes with a 4K display and it is priced at $640. Like the other devices form the vendor, the Mi TV 2’s miniature version is also specced impressively and comes at an affordable price tag.

Talking of availability, the Mi TV 2 is set to release in China on March 31 for a pricing of RMB 1999 (approx. $320). However, there is no word regarding the device’s availability in the global markets. It has already been confirmed by the manufacturer that the Indian market will receive the Mi TV 2, but a specific release date is yet to be known.
