Microsoft will bring Windows to Meta Quest headsets via a fully capable version of Windows 11. The company made this announcement at Microsoft Ignite 2024, with plans to launch on Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
You will be need to set up a Windows workstation in VR by connecting to your PC or Windows 365 cloud service. The system will let you place multiple virtual screens around you, creating a workspace in any location.
The new feature includes Volumetric Apps, which puts Windows applications in 3D space. You will be able to control these apps with hand movements in VR.
Microsoft chose to work with Meta after scaling back its HoloLens project. The companies already work together, with Microsoft Teams and Office apps on Quest devices.
The public preview starts in December 2024 for Meta Quest 3 users. This update helps make VR useful for work tasks alongside gaming.
