WhatsApp is the leading instant messaging app in the world, serving more than 1.5 billion people across the globe. But one thing that has eluded the Facebook-owned app is how to monetize this entire user base.

To generate some income from the massive following it enjoys in India, WhatsApp introduced money transfer services that allow users to send and receive money through the chat app.

Now, apparently, some users are noticing a new feature that lets them request money from their friends and family. There’s a new “Request Money” button beside the “Pay Money” button for sending money to contacts.

This feature is part of the latest WhatsApp version 2.18.113, which is still in beta, so make sure that’s what you have installed on your phone. You can also grab the APK version via the APK Mirror. Also, note that this feature is limited to the Indian market and if it’s not enabled for you, a little more patience could be all you need!
