Chinese OEM, Vivo has gone ahead and upgraded its Y51 smartphone that launched back in December 2015, into a new offering that lines up well with today’s budget phones, coming up with Vivo Y53 in the process. The device holds mid-range ground based on the specsheet presented on Vivo’s own website.
In case you’re wondering, there is no Vivo Y52, but it’s been roughly 14 months since Vivo Y5X series got an upgrade, and well, Vivo’s Y53 can be considered as a more than well deserved upgrade.
In terms of specifications you get the quad-core Snapdragon 425 Processor clocked at 1.4GHz over the Y51’s Snapdragon 410 processor. The amount of RAM present in the device remains the same at 2GB along with internal storage at 16GB. The battery capacity has also seen a marginal increase to 2500mAh. The Vivo Y53 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and given Vivo record — lor lack thereof — with updates, we don’t think it will see a day in Android 7.0 Nougat.

The front of the device carries over the same 5-inch 540×960 pixels display from the previous gen Y51. The camera of the Y53 too remains at the same 8MP rear shooter and 5MP front shooter. Coming to the design Vivo seems to have gone for a matte finish for the Y53 as compared to the shiny glass finish of the Y51.

The Vivo Y53 is available in two color options: Crown Gold and Space Gray (where have I heard that before…?). Based on the network bands supported by the smartphone we could expect the smartphone to make its way to Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and India.
