Back at CES 2018, Vivo became the first Android brand manufacturer to introduce the concept of an in-display fingerprint scanner. At MWC 2018, the company is surprising the tech industry once again with the APEX.
The slab of glass and aluminum packs a crisp 5.99-inch flexible OLED panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ display. Possibly the best iPhone X clone out there with no camera notch and minimal bezels, the Vivo APEX is the next generation of in-display fingerprint scanning phones.
Reported first by Phone Arena, APEX is world’s first mobile device with an in-display fingerprint scanner built into the entire bottom-half of the screen. This basically means that you can place your finger anywhere on the lower half of the screen and activate the biometric sensor.
Being an optical fingerprint sensor, it needs you to place your finger firmly to be scanned. While it is nowhere close to being as fast and accurate as the fingerprint scanner on most high-end smartphones, but the potential in this first concept is impressive in more ways than one.
