Let’s start this blog article with a hard truth: Vivo hates updates. It’s a kind of brand that offers devices after devices at such rate and to such set of customers, that providing for an update can be deemed as a futile exercise in itself. So, when we talk Vivo Nougat update here, there isn’t much exciting to share. And I already feel sick realizing and writing about this damn scenario.
Neither the customers — except few like this — care about it, nor the company wants to brag any update related rights.
The most popular handsets of Vivo — flagships or not — are still on the same Android OS version that they came pre-installed with, and there aren’t any crazy threads on the web appealing to Vivo to come up with an update for those handsets. Crazy it may seem, but it’s hard truth.

We’re listing a whole bunch of Vivo devices below, that we think are still relevant today, and their chances of the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
Android Nougat and Marshmallow for Vivo devices
While we’re talking Nougat for popular Android devices like Galaxy S7, Galaxy Note 5, OnePlus 3, etc., you’d be surprised to know that there aren’t many — in fact, almost none! — Vivo devices currently on Marshmallow, an OS Google released back in October 2015.
And that only device is the Vivo Xplay5 Elite, that is powered by Snapdragon 820 processor, among other things, which could be the reason Vivo deemed it worthy of Marshmallow in the first place.
Vivo V3 and V3Max Nougat and Marshmallow update
Launched only this in April, the Vivo V3 packs in decent spec-sheet consisting of 3GB RAM and Snapdragon 616 processor, with 13MP rear camera and 2550 mAh battery under the 5.0 HD display.
Same goes for its bigger brother in V3Max, which comes with Snapdragon 652 processor and 4GB of RAM, and 5.5″ FHD display.
But, both the devices run on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and Vivo hasn’t expressed any will so far to update the V3 and V3Max to Marshmallow, let alone of Nougat. So, don’t expect any Android 6.0.1 or Android 7.0 update for the V3 and V3Max.
Vivo X7 and X7Plus Nougat and Marshmallow update
The Vivo X7 and X7Plus sets haven’t been blessed with the Snapdragon 820 processor of goodness, but in Snapdragon 652 chipset, they still hold some good raw power. Sadly though, the only Vivo device to run Marshmallow houses SD820 chip, which makes us believe that Android OS version greater than 5.1 have been reserved by Vivo for only SD820 and superior chips.
That is more so vindicated by the lack of Marshmallow update for the X7 and X7Plus, which run on SD652 chip. Launched only few months ago in July 2016, with Android 5.1 — which was released some 21 months ago on October 5, 2016 — it says all about Vivo’s software dedication (or lack thereof).
it would suffice to say that don’t expect Nougat update or Marshmallow update for both of the X7 and X7Plus Vivo sets.
Vivo X5, X5Pro, X5Max and X5Max+ Nougat and Marshmallow update
The above devices are poor sets that haven’t seen a day in Android 5.1 either, so of course, no Nougat or Marshmallow update for these sets, even though they were quite popular sets that came with cool unique set of features, and made Vivo become a known name for many users.
Bar the X5Pro, all other four sets run on Android 4.4 KitKat. Gah!
Vivo CM14 and CM13
If the whole situation wasn’t sick enough already, there appears to be no love for Vivo devices in the development community either. You don’t see CyanogenMod 13 and CyanogenMod 14 ROMs for Vivo devices on the web, no matter the hardware.
Because most of the popular Vivo sets house Snapdragon chipsets, we think a ROM or two can be cooked for them if a developer makes up his mind, but it seems it’s hard to find a developer who would work on Vivo devices — and Vivo’s own reluctance towards latest Android versions and software updates could be the big reason itself.
So, that’s pure shame for you, Vivo!
What are you thoughts on Vivo and its software update efforts?
