Verizon updates the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+ and LG K20 with May security patches

Samsung Galaxy J7, Galaxy J3, Moto Z updates

Unlike T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless hasn’t given any indication that it will be updating the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ to the latest Android 8.0 Oreo software, but this doesn’t mean the Big Red won’t be taking care of the 2015 handsets as far as security updates are concerned.

As of this writing, for instance, the American telco is now rolling out new updates to the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. The updates install new security patches for the month of May and even though not the latest, it’s great to see close to 3-year-old phones still receiving regular software updates.

The Galaxy Note 5’s software has been bumped up to version N920VVRS3CRE4 while that of the S6 Edge+ now stands at version G928VVRS3CRE4, but these aren’t the only handsets Verizon is updating to May 2018 security patches.

If you own the LG K20 V, there’s also a software update for you that carries firmware version VS50117A and like the other two, the update is airborne. This means that it may take up to later this week before every user of the Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+ and LG K20 receive the download notification on their handsets.

You can always wait for the notification, but there’s also the option to force the update via the Settings menu. Your choice!
