Verizon has begun rolling out a feature-rich and bug-fixer update for its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets, coming in as software version G950USQU1AQGL and G955USQU1AQGL — the exact software version you saw on AT&T S8 and S8 too about 7 days ago.
The latest update for the Verizon Galaxy S8 brings the user-favorite navigation bar hide/show feature, so that you can enjoy the infinity display to its maximum by hiding the bottom navigation bar, and bring it back when the need be.
Besides that, the update should help you unlock the Galaxy S8 faster than earlier, thanks to improvements Samsung has baked into this update. This takes a hit with security, and thus Samsung has given you an option to enable and disable this option so that you can choose between high security with face recognition, or its speed.
Today’s Galaxy S8 update for Verizon also brings fixes for some known bugs. If you were experiencing issue with alarm notification not showing up on AOD, this updates fixes it. Other fixes that are part of the today’s OTA update include Music browsing on in-car Bluetooth music system, removal of not so important app notifications on Briefing card on the hello Bixby page, update to Caller Name ID app and Smart Switch app and improvements for B2B enterprise users (better VPN connection and improved KNOX container initialization).

The QGL update is still based on Android 7.0, as we await for the Android 7.1.1 update from Samsung, but the Galaxy S8 will also be first Samsung device to rock Android Oreo update too. We expect the S8 Oreo update to release sometime in December 2017-January 2018. An Oreo beta update could be released by Samsung before the end of December 2017, with the stable release to follow in January 2018.
