So, HTC have understood they need a more power packed device than HTC Sensation to overcome the Galaxy S II as the world’s best phone. Well, that’s good but what leads us to believe that is the appearance of a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor powered HTC android phone in the benchmark score-sheet of Nenamark (it’s okay if never heard of this tool before). The device is called HTC Vigor — has it been named so because it would really need a lot of vigor to beat Galaxy S II? — for now but we are pretty sure it’s a codename for internal reporting purposes — and a basis to name firmware leaks too — and that commercial name would be different. Even if it isn’t, we like this name anyway.
But what’s more exciting to us is the presence of 1280 x 720 HD display. That’s gotta be a very good sign of the upcoming-tech we’re gonna witness and use in year 2012. And although it’s running Android 2.3.4 for now, we won’t be shy of putting this device to Android 4.0 fame. Possibly, the HTC Vigor will be the first Ice Cream Sandwich device of HTC, unless its sister Puccini — HTC’s upcoming tablet — steals that by launching earlier.
So, let’s a take stock of what’s new and exciting about the HTC Vigor:
- 1.5 GHz dual-core processor
- new Adreno 220 GPU units
- Possibly, Android 4..0 Ice Cream Sandwich (it’s running Android 2.3.4 for now as seen in the tests)
- 720p HD Display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 (that’s what something we currently have on tablets. But that would be on phones soon, eh!)
Sure it’s intrigued us completely but guess what — oh, don’t let this spoil the fun — the Vigor’s avg score of 36.15 is no where near the Galaxy S II’s 45.38. So, does the MALI-400 GPU chip inside the S II prove too much for the upgraded Adreno 220 chip inside Vigor? Or, it seems more reasonable, that because the HTC Vigor is running at a res of 1280 x 720 the score of 36.15 is quite good as against the S 2’s 45.38 based on the res of 800 x 480. Higher res requires lots of graphical power and thus, S 2 clearly has a huge advantage with lower resolution that’s resulting in improved score too. We can only guess, though!
