These popular Samsung devices will get Oreo at the same time Google Pixels will be getting Android P

Samsung A8 Plus

On March 8, the first Android P developer preview was released. As of this writing, only the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL can access this version of P, but we expect the beta version to go public during or immediately after the Google I/O 2018, which will kick off on May 8.

Based on recent history, the stable version of Android P should be rolled out somewhere in Q3, probably in August 2018. Interestingly, this is the same period that a bunch of popular Samsung devices will be receiving Android 8.0 Oreo, which will be a year old by then.

It’s not the first time Samsung will be taking a year or so to roll out an OS to compatible devices. However, what’s strange is how consistent the company has been with this unacceptable trend, which is not something you expect from a world leader in the smartphone industry.

The devices in question here are the Galaxy A8 and A8+, Galaxy J3 Prime, Galaxy Tab A8 2017, Galaxy Tab Active 2, Galaxy Tab A 10.1 as well as the Galaxy Xcover 4. While it’s understandable for the likes of Galaxy J3 Prime or even the Tab A 10.1 to get Oreo this late, it doesn’t make any sense when it comes to the Galaxy A8 and A8+ handsets.

These two were unveiled in January 2018 and since Samsung disappointed many by not going for Android Oreo out of the box, expectations were that the A8 and A8+ would be among the first midrangers to get Oreo. But as it turns out, the OS will roll out first to the Galaxy A5 and A7 2017 before heading to the A8 family.

What do you think about the fact that Samsung will still be rolling out Oreo by the time Google Pixel and Pixel 2 will be getting Android P? Let us know in your comments below.
