Earlier today, LG let it slip through its open source code page a hint about the Lollipop update for T-Mobile LG G3. Now, developer AutoPrime made good use of that source code, pulling the boot.img from it and, as quick as a wink, coupling it with system data and other stuff available so far to come up with a custom ROM that works pretty good, except for the calls and data part as the modem isn’t available just yet.
We would still call it good work, and once the modem is out for the T-Mobile G3 for Lollipop update — can anyone share? — it would become a fully working ROM. For now, it’s best only for playing out the update, something that many of you may be looking for. Your WiFi, Bluetooth, etc. stuff are as good as they will be when official update hits the device. Further, T-Mobile stuff is all plucked away, it’s just plain LG stock Lollipop update you’re left with, albeit with necessary additions: it’s already rooted, and modded to allow apps to write to external SDcard, plus the tethering.
Do switch on the airplane mode, so that battery isn’t wasted on that which is already out of sorts for a while.
Enjoy your network-less G3 on this ROM while the official OTA/firmware makes it to the Internets.
How to Install
I’ll not go into much details, and am assuming that you’ve got the T-Mobile LG G3 with TWRP recovery installed, and have made appropriate backups already.
Downloads
- boot file — Link | Filename: LGD851_20b_BOOT-iNb4TMO.zip | Size: 10MB
- system file — Link | Filename: LGD851_20L-ollipop-iNb4TMO.zip | Size: 937MB
For latest files (the ROM will update a lot I’m guessing), keep an eye on this page. And the source development page at XDA.
Guide
- Transfer both the boot and system file you just downloaded to your G3
- Reboot into TWRP recovery and create a nandroid backup.
- Do a factory reset.
- Flash the boot file first.
- And then flash the system file.
- When done, reboot system.
